Elimination of the Islamic State menace threatening the world must be at the top of the next president’s to-do list.

Recent events aside, President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and the Democrats in their convention seemed engrossed in social consciousness issues [“Making history in Philadelphia,” News, July 27]. America cannot fall for this myopia. Of course, America is still the greatest country in the world, but we are in a downward spiral.

Donald Trump may not be the ideal candidate from a personal standpoint. He lacks polished oratory skills and a so-called presidential bearing. But where have these superficial traits gotten us in the past eight years?

Trump has the vision, dedication and the financial and management skills above everyone else to lead us home.

We defeated the tyranny of Adolf Hitler with the help of Russia. Is Russian President Vladimir Putin more dangerous than Josef Stalin was [“Trump reckless on Russia,” Editorial, July 28]?

Pope Francis was right when he said the world is at war. We need a president like Donald Trump who will not hesitate to negotiate with all countries, including Russia, for a global military action to defeat the Islamic State.
