Many terrorists are indeed educated

The worn mantra that terrorists are uneducated is incorrect [“Lack of education feeds terrorism,” Letters, Aug. 9]. While some fit that description, many do not.

Osama bin Laden studied economics and business administration at King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia and came from a wealthy, well-connected family.

Bin Laden’s son-in-law, Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, was a high school religion teacher. After a trial, he was jailed for life for conspiring to kill Americans and providing material support to terrorists.

Blind Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman, infamous for the Luxor massacre of 58 European tourists in Egypt and the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center, was a scholar from the prestigious Al-Azhar University in Cairo.

The common feature of these Islamic terrorists is that they believe that by killing non-Muslims, they are doing Allah’s will. Education has nothing to do with it.
