Young board member deserves to continue
As the former chairman of the Nassau County Youth Board, I can tell you that board member Joshua Lafazan not only showed up to meetings, but also was a thoughtful and intelligent voice for Nassau’s young people [“GOP declines board renomination,” News, March 1].
That he’s pursuing a master’s degree at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education is a plus, not a minus. That he wants to extend his public service by running for the Nassau County Legislature should be applauded by both parties.
Lafazan also has served on the Syosset school board with distinction, has been an active member of the board of the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, and has founded an organization dedicated to youth safety.
This is exactly the kind of person lawmakers should want on the youth board and exactly the kind of person we should welcome into the public dialogue as we reshape Nassau’s future.
