Trump wants fugitives back from Cuba

The June 17 news story “Cuba restrictions back,” by The Associated Press, didn’t mention a primary reason President Donald Trump is adopting this new policy.

Only later — in a June 20 story, “Cuba rejects Trump policy,” also by The AP — was it explained that Cuba is harboring fugitives such as Joanne Chesimard, a black militant convicted in 1977 of the killing of a New Jersey state trooper.

The president wants such fugitives returned to the United States before relations between the two countries can be normalized.

The June 16 speech by the president in Miami clearly mentioned Cuba harboring fugitives, yet the first story ignored this fact.
