Thank you for writing about the plight of villages ["Amityville illustrates squeeze felt by villages," Editorial, March 4].
Even fiscally conservative villages like Brightwaters are being stressed these days. But the virtues of tight expense control, forgoing an occasional luxury, and low or no debt are the universal keys to survive and prosper.
Sadly, these virtues are out of style with many in public office.
