Why is East Hills earmark justified?

Regarding Paul Greenberg's column concerning the possible ban on earmarks ["The great orator lapses into polspeak," Opinion, Dec. 5], one must question Rep. Gary Ackerman's proposal to earmark $100,000 to an after-school program in East Hills, a well-to-do town.

One must question the rationale of using taxpayer funds for this one program. Aren't after-school programs more desirable in towns with less affluence? Then again, how can you decide one program is more worthy then another?
