Soon, I hope that on a visit to Jones Beach, or anywhere on Long Island’s South Shore, I will see a beautiful sight on the far horizon: offshore wind turbines generating clean electricity [“Wind turbine site off Jones Beach to be auctioned,” News, Oct. 28].

These gentle giants are far from an eyesore: They are fighters against climate change. They are what the new, post-fossil fuel world has to look like.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has been leading New York to a future of renewable energy, and this large wind farm will be a necessity to achieve his stated goal: generating half of our electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
