NJ psychologist speaks on child sensitivity to CT school shooting

Connecticut officials say 20 students were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

NEWTOWN, Conn. - Following the tragic Connecticut school shooting, a New Jersey psychologist is advising parents how to speak to their children about the incident.

Dr. Edward Hall, a child psychologist at Bergen Regional Medical Center, says kids naturally feel powerless and insecure and hearing about this kind of violence at a school could make that worse.

Hall says that parents have to be steadfast in trying to convey to their children a sense of safety within their own family. He advises that parents not let their kids see too much coverage of the shooting.
