The editorial board is interested in a report that SUNY is scheduling a spin-off of one of its most successful research centers, the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering in Albany, for the 2014-15 academic year. How will this intersect with Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s plan, which we supported, to offer tax-free zones for businesses that locate on college campuses?
We’re pleased that the G subway line is receiving upgrade attention from the MTA. The line, which connects Brooklyn and Queens, has been neglected for years. But with the resurgence of neighborhoods in these boroughs – from which there are many Manhattan-bound commuters – the MTA is looking at ways to improve service.
The board is looking into ways to prevent the abuse of Adderall and other performance-enhancing drugs off college campuses. This drug, which is prescribed for ADHD, is too easy to get – even at the high school level.
And noted libertarian Sen. Rand Paul, Republican of Kentucky, is co-hosting a press conference today with New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, a Democrat, in support of her bill to prevent and punish sexual assault in the military. This is an unlikely pairing, and we wonder, what does it mean for the bill’s potential?
