PARKCHESTER - A Parkchester school is trying to get its students motivated for next week's statewide Common Core exams in a creative way.

The entire student body of P.S. 536 held a pep rally for the third- and fourth-graders who will take the exams.

Students held up signs and chanted as the kids were cheered to do their best on the writing and reading exams.

Students have been preparing since the beginning of the year to meet the state's Common Core standards, which were put in place last year.

This is the second year of the pep rally at P.S. 536 to get students ready and motivated to excel, and to show critics of Common Core that city students can meet higher standards.
