Police seek suspected armed robber Victor Shear in Highland Falls

The principal and his staff were told to stay home while police surround the school and investigate.

HIGHLAND FALLS - Police are actively searching for an armed bank robbery suspect in Highland Falls.

Police say Victor Shear, 45, allegedly robbed a Trusco Bank at gunpoint on Wednesday. Shear's car was found by police in Highland Falls on Friday.

State police say they closed the entrance to James O'Neill High School earlier Friday as a precaution. They say the school was being used as a staging area, and that the suspect was not inside. The school's principal and staff were told to stay home as police surrounded the school and investigated.

Authorities would not say if Shear has family or friends in the area that he might be staying with. They are searching the area by helicopter and have troopers on ground patrol.

Shear is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 135 pounds.

Detectives say he was last seen wearing green pants, a hoodie and a baseball cap.

Anyone with information is urged to call state police at 845-782-8311.
