Red light cameras planned for New Rochelle

City officials say the cameras will help enhance public safety and save the city money.

New Rochelle officials are reviewing legislation to implement red light cameras across the city.

City Manager Charles Strome says the cameras are intended to save money, but that the first priority is to enhance public safety.

Strome says the cameras will hopefully make drivers less likely to speed, especially if they know that they'll be fined if caught. Part of the legislation would also include data registration on intersections and accidents.

The city council is expected to review the proposal on Tuesday to send to the state later in January.
