Ruben Lopez, man found injured Saturday on New Rochelle street, now in coma

Police are still investigating how Ruben Lopez was injured.

NEW ROCHELLE - A man found lying in a pool of blood Saturday on a New Rochelle street is in a coma, officials say.

Ruben Lopez, 31, was found Saturday morning at the corner of Alpha Place and Pelham Road in New Rochelle. Police found him unconscious and face-down, bleeding from his head and ear. The location is five blocks from the Franklin Avenue apartment where he lives with his wife and two daughters. Police do not know how he was injured or how he ended up there.

Lopez's wife, Maria, says she last saw her husband on Friday at 6:45 p.m., when he went to the store across the street with another man. Maria Lopez says she knows all of her husband's friends, but didn't recognize this man. She believes he may know how her husband was injured.

Police are looking at surveillance video from a nearby building, hoping it can provide more clues. Residents who live near where Lopez was found say they didn't hear any gunshots or sounds of a fight.
