"Hills" returning without Lauren Conrad

"The Hills" is definitely returning this fall without Lauren Conrad, MTV announced Tuesday, according to Us Weekly.

The rest of the gang - Heidi Montag, Audrina Patridge, Spencer Pratt, Brody Jenner, Stephanie Pratt, Lo Bosworth, Justin Bobby - as well as several "fresh faces" will be back, MTV said.

One of the "fresh faces" may not be so fresh, though.

According to E! News, multiple sources have confirmed that the appearance of " Laguna Beach" alum Kristin Cavallari at the Speidi wedding was no accident, and that the finale will kick off her arrival on "The Hills."

When asked, Cavallari said she couldn't talk about the coming season. A show rep could not confirm any of the Conrad replacement rumors circulating.

"Spencer and Heidi will be newlyweds, so the stakes are higher than ever before for the two to make things work," the network said in a statement. "Viewers will find out life in Los Angeles only gets more complicated as friendships, relationships and loyalties are tested like never before."

When asked if "The Hills" could survive without Conrad, Patridge told Us: "Yes, we're like family to our audience."
