Community news

News interns for newsday.com have a passion for hyperlocal, community-driven reporting and telling stories about Long Islanders that won’t be found elsewhere. This position includes covering community events, such as high school homecomings and proms, as well as writing feature stories about Long Islanders with an eye toward diversity and underserved audiences.

They’ll also help us to create and update photo lists and help with longer-term online multimedia projects.

Interns work out of Newsday's Melville office, or in the field. A familiarity with Long Island is preferred.

Sports

Newsday.com sports interns have a passion for sports, multimedia and digital journalism.

Interns help manage the sports section of Newsday’s website and app. Interns create content for the sports page including stories, photo galleries and other multimedia. They also assist with breaking news, social media and help with longer-term multimedia projects.

This internship is based out of Newsday’s office in Melville, with occasional opportunity to work in the field.

Social Media

Social media interns should have a passion for visual storytelling, community engagement, and digital journalism. Interns help to create engaging and shareable social media posts (memes, graphics) to drive traffic to newsday.com. Interns will help us create video content for our social media channels, such as producing Instagram stories, Facebook Lives, or editing videos specific to platforms. Graphics and animation knowledge is a plus.

Lifestyle

Newsday.com lifestyle interns have a passion for features, multimedia and digital journalism.

Interns help manage the lifestyle section of Newsday’s website and app. They also create stories, photo galleries and multimedia extras relating to travel, gifts, pets, family and events.

Editorial internship

Newsday is looking for students for the fall Internship program. Newsday internships are designed for students interested in a career in journalism.

Our interns produce content for the newspaper and for our digital products. One of the unique aspects of this program is its hands-on experience. Interns get practical training, work closely with editors and are expected to perform as professionals. Interns work in our main office in Melville on Long Island. A driver’s license and car are required.
