The news of the day, of course, was Andy Pettitte's return to the Yankees. I won't even pretend that I saw this one coming. Simply shocking.
Here's my column about it.
--You know it's a busy day in the Yankees' world when Derek Jeter gets shut down for a few days and it's a sidebar.
--In Port St. Lucie, Johan Santana threw his third Grapefruit League start, and the Mets sound increasingly encouraged that Santana might actually make his Opening Day assignment. As we get closer to that, and if Santana remains healthy, we'll have to start figuring out exactly what kind of pitcher he'll be post-surgery. An ace? A third starter?
--Ryan Braun isn't hitting well in spring training, causing the Brewers and Braun to reassess his preparation for the season. It would be terribly naive to think that Braun's offseason didn't drain him, or at least distract him from his standard offseason stuff. That doesn't preclude him from having a good year. But you might as well acknowledge the offseason's impact.
--Have a great day.
