Book contest: Joe Torre

No, I didn't just finish "Chasing the Dream," Joe Torre's 1997 autobiography that was co-written by Tom Verducci. File this under "cleaning out the bookshelf."

But if you haven't read it, you should. It's an excellent, reflective accounting of Torre's life through 1996. Plenty has occurred since then, of course, but that shouldn't take away from what a compelling read this book is.

And I'll give my paperback copy to the first person who e-mails me - at - with the correct answer to this question:

The book, including the title, centers on Torre's quest for a World Series appearance and championship. Torre attained that goal on October 26, 1996, when the Yankees defeated Atlanta, 3-2, at Yankee Stadium to win the '96 Fall Classic in six games.

The Yankees used 16 players that night. Of those 16, three were participating in their second World Series-clinching game while playing for the winning team.

Name the trio that had been there, done that, prior to that memorable night in the Bronx.

UPDATE, 10:53 a.m.: I goofed. There were four such players, not three. So name all four. I'll resolve the mess with those who already have provided three correct answers.

UPDATE, 11:03 a.m.: OK, so it turned out that the same person who first gave me three right answers, also came up with all four. That would be bigfroe, a commenter back in the early days of the blog.

bigfroe knew that, from that '96 Game 6, Darryl Strawberry played for the Mets in 1986 World Series Game 7; Mariano Duncan and Paul O'Neill played for the Reds in 1990 World Series Game 4; and Jimmy Key pitched for the Blue Jays in 1992 World Series Game 6

Apologies for the confusion.
