When the Yankees started the season without Curtis Granderson, Brett Gardner was called upon to start in centerfield. Last night he showed why.

Gardner ran a long way to catch a ball hit by Texas Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus in the bottom of the eighth inning, saving what would have been at least a double.

At the time, the Yankees still trailed the Rangers 4-3. Gardner's two-out catch sent the game to the ninth, where the Yankees rallied to take a 5-4 lead and eventually won.

This isn't the first big hit Gardner has taken off the board this season. He robbed Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy of a home run in May and robbed him of an extra-base hit a day later.
