Brian Cashman no slouch at the trade deadline

Ever since Alex Rodriguez crumpled to the ground after getting hit on his left hand with a Felix Hernandez change-up on Tuesday, speculation began as to what the Yankees response would be. Sit tight? Obtain some veteran depth? Acquire a difference maker?

While Brian Cashman has thus far stayed the course (AKA rolling the dice with Eric Chavez and Jayson Nix), his past trade history has shown an ability to pull the trigger on substantial deadline deals.

Since taking over as Yankees GM in 1998, Cashman has made 23 trades within a week of the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. He didn't complete any trades in that time frame in 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2001. Here's a rundown of the trades, with players to be named later identified where possible:
