Orioles manager Buck Showalter is the subject of a promotional campaign with the clever title, “BUCKle Up!” It’s everywhere in Baltimore. Everywhere.
The impetus came from an Aug. 29 news conference when Showalter compared the season to a roller-coaster ride.
“Stay tuned. Hold on,” Showalter said. “That’s why they put that bar down on the roller-coaster ride. So you don’t fly off there when you make a sharp turn. I get enough things that scare me in my life not to be artificially scared on a roller coaster . . . What’s that thing at Disney? Something Mountain?”
Asked Monday night how he felt about being the subject of the campaign, Showalter said: “Odd.” Then he vowed not to “ad-lib” about roller coasters again.
