Cardinals pick up Winn

The St. Louis Cardinals signed former Yankees outfielder Randy Winn Saturday, looking to provide more depth to their bench.

Winn, a switch hitter with a .285 career average, hit .213 with one homer and eight RBIs in 29 games with the Yankees before he was designated for assignment last month. He grounded out as a pinch hitter Saturday for the Cards.

To clear roster space, the Cardinals optioned outfielder Jon Jay to Triple-A Memphis and moved righthander Kyle Lohse to the 60-day disabled list.

Boston calls up Reddick

With Jeremy Hermida resting a bruised forearm, the Red Sox recalled outfielder Josh Reddick from Triple-A Pawtucket and optioned reliever Scott Atchison to the same club.
