Comment Winter Olympics: SOPA, the big Yankees trade and the Mets trial

First of all, thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes. Very much appreciated.

OK, now it's time for our weekly (or so) medal ceremony. The judges have been working diligently to select their three winners.

Here are those winners:

--The bronze goes to Islander505, who responded to my analogy comparing Rangers officials to "Seinfeld's" Elaine Benes, when she tries futilely to downplay her interest in a case of Today Sponges:

Today Sponges? Really?

Getting in your last shots of Internet freedom just in case SOPA is passed and Santorum is elected?

--The silver goes to Richie G., who offered his unique take on the Yankees' big trade:

I think this is a horrible trade for the Yanks because I know Montero but never heard of Pineda.

--And finally, the gold goes to Poppy, who checked after a good legal day for the Mets:

Today, it's 34 days until pitchers and catchers report to spring training...and...61 days until jury selection begins in the Mets/Madoff trial.

--Have a great day.

--UPDATE, Saturday, 7:47 a.m.: No time for a full entry this morning - no need, either, really - but I wrote two stories for today's Newsday. One features Bobby Valentine's thoughts on his new gig, and one features some Yankees items, leading with Brett Gardner agreeing to a one-year, $2.8-million contract.
