I have the 2009 book in my possession, which means that this is a compilation of 2008 stories. Somehow, none of my Weekend Predictions from that year made the cut. I'll have to keep my eyes open for the 2010 book, to see if these people came to their senses.
Anyway, it's mostly enjoyable stuff - all sports, not just baseball. I figure I can get away with giving it away here since there are some baseball stories in it. My favorite baseball story is one by Matthew Teague for Philadelphia Magazine, on Charlie Manuel. Here it is, as a matter of fact.
I'll give the book to the first person who e-mails me - at email@example.com - with the correct answer to this question:
Who is the Phillies' all-time winningest manager? I want the manager with the most wins for the Phillies, rather than the one with the best winning percentage.
--UPDATE, 3:16 p.m.: We have a winner! Depressed Mets fan Jack D. of Guilford, CT knew that Gene Mauch has the most Phillies wins as manager, with 646. Interestingly, Manuel ranks fourth with 544 (as you can see, Harry Wright is second with 636, albeit all pre-1900, while Danny Ozark is third with 594), so if the Phillies win 103 games this year - hardly a preposterous notion - Manuel can climb all the way to the top.
