March 3, 2012: Newsday obtains a report that the Mets' ballpark-related revenue (parking, concessions, stadium advertising and more) has dropped more than 30 percent since Citi Field opened in 2009, and premium-ticket sales have fallen almost 50 percent.

No matter whether the Mets are contending in 2013 or not, Citi Field will be the center of the baseball universe for one week during the summer. And now you have a shot to join the party.

Registration for the opportunity to buy All-Star event ticket strips starts Thursday (as in today). The registration process only entitles you to a chance to be picked at random to actually purchase an All-Star events strip. That strip includes a ticket to each All-Star Week event, two MLB All-Star FanFest tickets and one Official All-Star Game program.

The All-Star events encompass the (1) actual 84th MLB All-Star Game on July 16, the (2) Gatorade All-Star Workout Day on July 15, which features the Home Run Derby and All-Star Batting Practice, and (3) Taco Bell All-Star Sunday on July 14, during which the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game and Taco Bell All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game occur. The All-Star FanFest is being held at the Javits Center from July 12-16.

In addition, MLB is seeking 2,000 community volunteers, age 18 and older, for the festivities.
