COOPERSTOWN -- All kinds of baseball figures appear here on Hall of Fame weekend, not just Hall of Famers.

Former players sit inside restaurants or card shops, or on the sidewalk in front, and sign autographs. There was an intriguing duo signing in front of the Paterno Brothers store early Friday afternoon -- an original Met and a former Duck.

Frank Thomas greeted fans as he sat at the table wearing his Mets cap. Next to him, in decidedly good spirits was John Rocker, who pitched for the Ducks after a tumultuous career with the Braves.

"That was 2005, it was a good time," Rocker said. When he was asked what he is doing these days, he smiled and joked, "Just twiddling my thumbs." He said he probably won't look to get back into baseball.
