Greinke gets first win, but Royals fire Hillman

The Kansas City Royals fired manager Trey Hillman immediately after Zack Greinke earned his first win in eight starts, 6-4, over the Cleveland Indians Thursday.

Hillman, 47, was in his third season with the Royals and went 152-207. Former Brewers manager Ned Yost, who had joined Kansas City's front office in January, took over the 12-23 team.

Alberto Callaspo hit a three-run homer and the Royals snapped a seven-game skid by roughing up David Huff (1-5) and giving Greinke (1-4) his most run support of the season.

Orioles 6, Marniers 5

Luke Scott hit a grand slam to cap a five-run eighth inning against reliever Brandon League (3-3) for host Baltimore. Orioles leftfielder Corey Patterson threw out Josh Wilson at the plate for the final out.

Rangers 2, Athletics 1

Vladimir Guerrero's RBI single in the 12th inning won it for host Texas.

Astros 4, Cardinals 1

Bud Norris (2-4) gave up one run, six hits, struck out eight and walked none and Hunter Pence hit a three-run homer as visiting Houston completed a three-game sweep. The Cardinals have lost seven of nine.

Padres 1, Giants 0

Mat Latos (3-3) threw a one-hitter, allowing just a sixth-inning infield single that deflected off him, and drove in the lone run for visiting San Diego. - AP
