Lester, Youkilis lead Red Sox win

Jon Lester pitched seven strong innings to remain undefeated against Baltimore in 12 career decisions, Kevin Youkilis homered and drove in three runs, and host Boston beat the Orioles, 9-3, last night.

Boston has won 17 of its last 19 games in Fenway Park against the Orioles.

J.D. Drew had three hits and drove in pair of runs with a first-inning double.

Justin Verlander (10-5) struck out 10 in seven innings and Brandon Inge drove in three runs for host Detroit.

Braves 4, Marlins 1

Tommy Hanson (8-5) allowed five hits and an unearned run with eight strikeouts and two walks in 62/3 innings as host Atlanta moved a season-best 15 games over .500. Gregor Blanco's two-run single highlighted a four-run fourth.

Phillies 12, Pirates 4

Ryan Howard picked up a slumping offense by driving in three runs, Jimmy Rollins homered among his three hits and visiting Philadelphia shook off a three-game losing streak.

Kyle Kendrick (5-3) pitched his first major league complete game.

Brewers 12, Cardinals 5

Rickie Weeks hit a leadoff homer to begin a miserable outing for Chris Carpenter as visiting Milwaukee capitalized. Carpenter (9-2) failed to retire any of the four batters he faced in the fourth inning and was charged with eight runs.

Cubs 3, Reds 1

Randy Wells (4-6) took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning to end his long losing streak and Geovany Soto hit a two-run double for Chicago.- AP
