Mark Teixeira heads to Tampa Sunday, planning to step up the rehab process for his strained left calf, but still with no timetable for a return.
“There’s no reason to [set one],” said Teixeira, who already has suffered one setback.
The first baseman, whom the Yankees hope can rejoin them by the regular season's final week, did hit on the field for the first time in his rehab.
“Grounders aren’t going to a problem, hitting’s not going to be a problem,” Teixeira said. “It’s when you have to accelerate, that first step. If I overload it, it feels a little tight, a little sore. But over all it's progressing a little better each day.”
