Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon clarified comments he made earlier this week regarding the team's offseason plans.

While naming some of the players that the Mets believe have "solidified" roster spots for next season, Wilpon also made some glaring omissions, including second baseman Daniel Murphy and catcher Travis d'Arnaud.

But Wilpon said that he was merely "speaking off the cuff" he listed only David Wright, Zack Wheeler, Dillon Gee and Jon Niese as the players he considered to already be in place for next season.

On Thursday, Wilpon added a few more names.

"Certainly, I should have mentioned Murphy by name, I should have mentioned d'Arnaud by name, and like I said, you could potentially put [Juan] Lagares in that group," Wilpon said. "And certainly you have to put in some of the young stud pitchers we have coming up."

Wilpon also believes that the Mets have a logjam of in-house options to avoid making a splashy signing to fill their need at first base.

Said Wilpon: "In my mind, Murphy was part of that group at first base, that's why I didn't mention him by name."
