Because I'm a procrastinator -- and mostly been on vacation since the winter meetings -- it looks like I'll be the last one in the entire blogosphere to post an All-Decade team. With eight hours to spare, no less! So here goes ...

With apologies to Mr. Met, who wears the number on his back, the 00s were not kind to this franchise or its followers. Sure they opened with the Mets' first World Series appearance since 1986, but even that was a five-game loss to the hated Yankees. And the mental wounds -- as well as physical toll -- of the 92-loss season of 2009 will weigh on these Mets as they begin the next decade.

The 00s did feature two playoff appearances, but should have included at least two more if not for the two infamous September collapses. Anyway, here are the enduring names from an otherwise forgettable decade for the Mets.

Mets All-Decade Team

1. Mike Piazza
2. David Wright
3. Carlos Beltran
4. Jose Reyes
5. Carlos Delgado
6. Johan Santana
7. Al Leiter
8. *Steve Trachsel
9. Edgardo Alfonzo
10. Pedro Martinez

*So why Steve Trachsel? Incredibly, good ole Trachs was the decade leader in wins. Strange, but true, and therefore he needs to be on this list.

Happy New Year, Mets Nation, and see you in 2010.
