Though David Wright might not take the field again this season, he hasn’t forgotten his role as the Mets’ captain.
When first-time All-Stars Noah Syndergaard and Jeurys Familia arrived at their lockers on Saturday, they were greeted with congratulatory gifts from Wright, himself a seven-time All-Star.
They found bottles of Johnnie Walker Blue Label waiting at their lockers, each with an accompanying handwritten note. Syndergaard’s was written in English, Familia’s in Spanish, both written on Citi Field stationery, both signed “D. Wright.”
Wright congratulated each on making the All-Star Game in San Diego on Tuesday and reminded both to enjoy the experience.
“I love it,” said Familia, the handwritten note draped over the box in his locker. “I’m going to leave it there like that forever in my house.”
