Dominic Smith, the Mets' 2013 first-round draft pick, was 2-for-3 against Jose Fernandez, the 2013 National League Rookie of the Year with the Marlins, , but Jupiter beat Mets' Single-A Advanced affiliate St. Lucie, 4-1.
The first baseman added a walk in the ninth inning.
Fernandez (1-1, 3.20 ERA) is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery in 2014. In four starts, the electric righthander has struck out 25 and walked four in 19 2/3 innings, allowing 18 hits. He's slated to return to the Marlins' rotation on July 2.
Smith, 20, is hitting .301 with a .343 on-base percentage, 21 doubles and two home runs in 56 games for St. Lucie (34-34, T-3rd place in Florida State League South, 11 games back). He was hitting .143 with one double after his first 16 games and went 0-for-22 to start May. But he's batted .365 (57-for-156) since May 9, with 20 doubles and two home runs.

Centerfielder Tucker Tharp was 4-for-4 with a walk, rightfielder Michael Bernal went 2-for-2 with a home run and a walk and second baseman Vincent Siena was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk as Brooklyn trounced Tri-City, 14-0. Righthander Matt Blackham struck out seven in seven innings, allowing three hits and one walk.
ROOKIE - DOMINICAN SUMMER LEAGUE METS 1

Centerfielder Anthony Dirocie tripled and walked, and rightfielder Wagner Lagrange was 3-for-5, but the Mets fell to the DSL Rockies, 7-2.

Leftfielder Luis Montero was 3-for-5, rightfielder Grabiel Jimenez went 3-for-4 with a double and first baseman Rigoberto Terrazas doubled and walked twice as the Mets beat the DSL Cubs, 6-5.
ROOKIE - GULF COAST LEAGUE METS
(0-1, T-3rd place in GCL East)
The Mets took a perfect game into the eighth inning, but Pablo Garcia's one-out single ended the bid and Erwin Almonte's two-out home run gave the Gulf Coast League Marlins a 2-1 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Righthander Jeff Walters, the former Triple-A closer making his first rehab appearance since he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2014, started the game with a perfect inning. Righthander Merandy Gonzalez followed with five perfect innings, striking out six. Righthander Luis Carreno started his outing with four outs before yielding the first hit to Garcia and the home run to Almonte.
The Mets got the tying run to third base with one out in the ninth, but rightfielder Kenneth Bautista struck out and shortstop Yeffry De Aza flew out to end the game.
