They might be down two games in the World Series, but the Amazins are still No. 1 in the hearts of many baseball fans in Islip Town.

Art Shamsky of the 1969 "Miracle Mets" championship team was among about two dozen people who gathered Thursday at a rally for the team at the Islip Town playground at Holbrook Country Club.

Long Island Ducks manager Kevin Baez also was among the attendees. Baez played shortstop for the Mets during three seasons in the early 1990s.

The Mets have lost the first two games of the Fall Classic to the Kansas City Royals. Game 3 is Friday at Citi Field.
