The Mets are hoping to get back to their winning ways tonight in a the finale of their four-game series against the Cubs.
Santana (1-1, 3.00 ERA) heads to the mound, hoping to get a win this time. In his last outing, Santana was impressive, giving up four hits and striking out nine in seven scoreless innings against St. Louis. He had been out of the game for hours, however, before the Mets won, 2-1, as the 20-inning contest was the Mets' longest in nearly 36 years.
Santanta has given the Cubs problems in the past. He has a 1.69 ERA while striking out 16 in 16 innings in winning his only two career starts against them. This will be the left-hander's first outing against Chicago at Citi Field, where he's 9-4 with a 2.68 ERA in 16 starts.
The Cubs are hoping to win two games in a row for the first time this season. Left-hander Tom Gorzelanny (0-1, 1.93) is also looking for his fiirst win of the season. Gorzelanny allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings against Cincinnati in his season debut, but didn't have the same luck in Saturday's 4-3 loss to Houston. He gave up two runs and left with a bruise on his left arm after being hit by a line drive in the third.
This will be Gorzelanny's first start against the Mets since 2008. He was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in four relief appearances against them last season. He is 1-2 with a 7.04 ERA against the Mets as a starter.
