According to a Tweet by Newsday's David Lennon (@dplennon), Mets shortstop Jose Reyes has been placed on the bereavement list for 3-7 days after the death of his grandmother in the Dominican Republic.
Reyes was originally in the lineup for tonight's game against the Pirates, but instead he has hopped a flight to Santiago, D.R.
The Mets, who are already without David Wright and Ike Davis -- who was sent back to New York today for what the team is calling a "follow-up exam" on his bruised/sprained ankle -- and who are sitting Jason Bay for tonight's game, will be hard-pressed to replace Reyes, who has at least two hits in seven of his last eight games.
He was 4-for-5 on Sunday with two triples against the Phillies, raising his season average .335.
For tonight's game, the Mets will now go with a lineup of Harris - 3B, Turner - 2B, Beltran - RF, Murphy - 1B, Pagan - CF, Thole - C, Pridie - LF, Tejada - SS, Gee - SP.
