Kelvim Escobar hurting. Sound familiar?

With pitchers and catchers reporting Thursday, at least one already will be behind the others as Kelvim Escobar has been slowed by a sore right shoulder. Escobar had surgery to repair a torn labrum inside that same shoulder back in 2007 and has pitched only five innings in the majors -- all last season for the Angels -- since the operation.

The Mets signed Escobar to a one-year deal worth $1.25-million in the hope that he would compete with Ryota Igarashi and Bobby Parnell for the eighth-inning set-up job to Francisco Rodriguez. It is unknown how long this shoulder condition will delay Escobar, but with the Mets, it usually makes sense to bet the over.
