Martinez, Tejada sent down to minors

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Ruben Tejada and Fernando Martinez were among 11 players sent to the minor-league camp by the Mets on Friday.

Tejada is slated to play shortstop at Triple-A Buffalo. Martinez, who is hitting .364 in spring training, is expected to play rightfield for Buffalo. Both players could be in the mix for the Mets in 2012.

Also sent out in the first cuts on Friday was top outfield prospect Kirk Nieuwenheis.

The others were pitchers Armando Rodriguez, Josh Stinson, Manny Alvarez, John Lujan, Tobi Stoner, catcher Kai Gronauer and infielders Zach Lutz and Jordany Valdespin.
