Keith Hernandez, the ultra honest SNY analyst, ended yesterday's broadcast by saying the Mets have to sweep the four game series in Atlanta to have any hope at post season. He couldn't be more correct. The Mets are 10 behind first place Atlanta and 7 1/2 out in the Wild Card. The Braves have lost six of 10, but won the last two games of their series with the Marlins. The Mets are at .500 for the season.
We can only see, at best, a split of the four games.
Tonight: Pat Misch (0-3, 3.50) vs. Jair Jurrjens (5-4, 4.36). Misch has pitched well, but has nothing to show for it. That continues in Atlanta. Advantage Braves.
Tueday: Jonathon Niese (8-6, 3.63) vs. Mike Minor (2-0, 4.00). Niese melted in his last start., but bounces back. Advantage Mets.
Wednesday: Mike Pelfrey (13-7, 3.61) vs. Tommy Hanson (8-10, 3.76). Pelfrey seems to have regained form. Advantage Mets.
Thursday: Johan Santana (10-9, 3.02) vs. Tim Hudson (15-5, 2.24): Hudson deserves strong CY Young consideration. Lack of run support or not, Santana creates his own bad luck. Advantage Braves.
