Mets, without LeBron or Cliff Lee, to host Braves

Pretty big series for the Mets this weekend. They trail surprising Atlanta by three games in the NL East.

Tonight at 7, it's R.A. Dickey (6-2, 2.62) vs. Tommy Hanson (8-5, 4.19)

Tomorrow at 4, it's Mike Pelfrey (10-3, 3.39) vs. Tim Hudson (8-4, 2.44)

Sunday at 1, it's Johan Santana (6-5, 3.15) vs. Derek Lowe (9-7, 4.40)

Then it's the All-Star break.

Expect Jose Reyes to play in all three games and bat righthanded in all three. If he felt pain while trying to swing lefthanded on Wednesday, why would he not want to rest the injury (ie not bat lefthanded) until after the All-Star break?

From being around the Mets all week, it seemed to me Jerry Manuel is a little nervous about the San Francisco-Arizona-Dodgers road trip right after the break. Arizona is a mess, but the other two teams are about as good as the Mets. An 11-game road trip is a lot of games.

So a bad showing this weekend is not recommended.
