Minaya's "rotating bullpen" takes first spin

Omar Minaya promised to have a "rotating bullpen" and those words turned out to be prophetic today as the Mets shipped Sean Green to the DL with a right intercoastal strain and called up lefthander Juan Valdes from Triple-A Buffalo.

Green barely made the Opening Day roster, and Minaya probably wasn't thrilled to see him serve up Dan Uggla's homer in his only appearance, which was during Wednesday's 7-6 loss to the Marlins. How or when Green was hurt seems to be somewhat of a mystery - he left for Florida as the Mets were taking batting practice -- and the Mets apparently were anxious to get another look at Valdes after his impressive spring training run.

Valdes' promotion now puts three lefthanders in the Mets' bullpen -- along with Hisanori Takahashi and Pedro Felciano.

Despite Green's "injury," Minaya also said he will keep the bullpen in flux based on performance. Other than Green, the Mets' relief corps has been fairly solid, and Valdes, 32, had a 2.08 ERA in six Grapefruit League games.

The Mets also designated Clint Everts for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Valdes.
