Niese hurls three scoreless innings

The Mets lost to the Nationals, 5-3, though starter Jon Niese did his part, allowing two hits in three innings.

Manny Alvarez was tagged for four runs. The Mets got two hits each from Lucas Duda and Fernando Martinez. But Martinez also made two errors.

Nationals' rookie Bryce Harper had his first hit in a big league uniform,  a pinch-hit single off Pedro Beato.
