When the Mets were Club Med with all their injuries, it was used as an excuse for their dismal record. The Phillies, who will host the Mets for three games starting Friday, are fighting through the disabled list and are headed to the top of the division.
Philadelphia has won nine of 11 and is just two games behind first-place Atlanta. Ryan Howard is on the DL with an ankle sprain (Mike Sweeney was quickly acquired from the Mariners). Chase Utley is still out. Jimmy Rollins has been out of the lineup more than he's been in. Placido Polanco did a stint on the DL, pitcher Jamie Moyer may be finished and Shane Victorino is injured. And that's just the significant names.
Of course, having pitchers Cole Hamels, Roy Halladay and newly acquired Roy Oswalt (if he throws as expected) helps cure many ills.
Would you bet against the Phillies winning their fourth straight East Division title?
