He's 35 and not even supposed to be in the rotation, but R.A. Dickey has stopper written all over him not just tonight but each time he pitches. Dickey goes into his start against Arizona with a 6-3 record and 2.63 ERA. Dickey started the season in the minors and was 22-28 in his unremarkable big league career.
Over his last three starts, Dickey is 0-2 with 13 strikeouts and 1.74 ERA.That's tough luck but every Mets pitcher has experienced some of that with this stop and go offense. With everyone back (didn't we say that for Mike Pelfrey last night), perhaps Dickey can get enough support to win.
The Mets are 1-4 on the trip (they should be 0-5 if not for the umpire's call against the Giants Sunday in San Francisco) and Arizona figured to be a safe haven for at least two victories before heading to Los Angeles.
Arizona will start Barry Enright (1-2, 3.45).
