Jose Reyes, who missed 11 games in July with a strain of his right oblique, apparently ignored a warning sign that the area was acting up.

"I felt it a little bit in batting practice today," Reyes told reporters, including Newsday's Anthony Rieber, after Thursday's game against the Marlins.  "I didn't think it was going to be any problem for the game. My first at-bat, when I hit a fly ball to centerfield, I felt something there. When I got a base hit, that's when I feel a lot."

Even then, it took first base coach Razor Shines to notice  that Reyes was wincing. Jerry Manuel then removed him.
