Jose Reyes, still bothered by the muscle strain in his right side, chose not to even swing a bat today in order to help in the healing process. Reyes managed to take only eight swings Thursday before shutting himself down.
Jerry Manuel had predicted that Reyes would return Saturday, but with today's development, he's now hoping for Sunday, though that seems iffy too. If Reyes is unable to go Sunday, David Wright is not likely to get a day off during this Washington series, as Manuel had initially planned.
Manuel also said that Luis Castillo (bruised feet) is expected to begin his rehab assignment next week and will return shortly after the break. When that happens, the Mets are likely to send down Ruben Tejada, as they already will have two second baseman on the roster in Castillo and Alex Cora.
