Including the MLBPA, whose executive director, Michael Weiner, made his annual visit to Mets camp on Tuesday. Ironic that Bobby Bonilla, the former Met who now works for the union, also was in attendance - and he will be on the Mets payroll for the next 25 years at an annual cost of $1.19 million.
Weiner tried to ease concerns about the Wilpons' checks bouncing -- the commissioner's office guarantees the salaries in such cases -- but did talk about the need to have New York's NL franchise healthy and flush with cash.
Also, Terry Collins talked more about how he would use Carlos Beltran early in spring training. The Mets asked opponents if they could employ the DH through the games of March 10 and were given permission to do so, and that will allow Beltran to get swings without pushing his knee in the outfield.
