Alex Cora signed with the Texas Rangers Tuesday. Cora's original contract with the Mets, which was due to vest for $2 million for next season with 80 appearances, does not apply to his deal with Texas. The Mets will save only a prorated portion of the major league minimum for this season on Cora's $2 million salary.
He is expected to join Triple-A Oklahoma City for Wednesday night's home game against Reno.
Cora hasn't had an at-bat since Aug. 2 against Atlanta and could use several games of work. Cora had been in a 10-for-59 (.169) stretch since July 1.The Rangers are seeking alternatives for a backup infielder after Joaquin Arias had two critical gaffes in a 6-4 loss to Tampa Bay on Monday.
