Would Mets play moneyball with new manager?

Tony LaRussa is expected to announce this week if he will remain with the Cardinals. He made $4.25 millon in 2010.

Sandy Alderson was never a big fan of paying managers--or players---when he ran the Athletics. As the leading candidate to become the next general manager of the Mets, would Alderson change his financial tune to lure LaRussa to New York?

Chances are the Mets are not paying $4 million to any manager for a rebuilding team when they can get a Wally Backman for about a quarter of that amount.
