Pedro Feliciano is sneaking up on a September comeback with the Yankees. So stealthily that Joe Girardi didn’t realize at first he had made another rehab outing Saturday, when Feliciano threw a scoreless inning in his third appearance for the Gulf Coast League Yankees.

When told of the outing, however, Girardi was optimistic that Feliciano could make his Yankees’ debut next month.

“We hope so,” Girardi said. “I think that’s why he’s going through what he’s going through. If we didn’t think he could help us, we wouldn’t put him through this.”

Feliciano signed a two-year, $8-million contract in 2011 but injured his throwing shoulder in spring training and subsequently needed surgery to repair a torn capsule. He has yet to throw a pitch for the Yankees in a major-league game.
