A new Marist Poll released Tuesday by the Marist College Center for Sports Communication found that 61 percent of baseball fans believe it is wrong to suspend a player without knowledge of a positive test for PEDs, even if they are linked to Biogenesis.
On the other hand 28 percent think players should be suspended while 11 percent are unsure.
The same poll showed that 78 percent of fans believe players who use steroids should not be allowed into the Hall of Fame.
MLB suspended Braun, the 2011 National League Most Valuable Player, for the remainder of the season Monday for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Braun accepted his suspension and will sit out the final 65 games without pay, a loss of roughly $3.4 million in salary.
The national poll of 574 baseball fans was conducted before the announcement of Braun’s suspension.
